The Challenge
A luxury environment demands more than simply placing a display on a wall. At Dimensional Fund Advisors’ Santa Monica office, the lobby was designed with the refinement of a gallery, but its narrow proportions created a unique challenge. The digital artwork would be experienced from just a few feet away, making extraordinary clarity and seamless integration essential. The challenge was to introduce a large-scale digital experience without disrupting the sophistication of the architecture around it.
Where Architecture Meets Digital Art
The Vision
The goal was not to add a screen to the lobby. It was to create a digital canvas that felt like part of the architecture itself. Featuring digital artwork by renowned California-based artist Jennifer Steinkamp, in partnership with Lehmann Maupin, the installation needed to preserve the detail and movement of the artwork at architectural scale. And because visitors would experience the display from unusually close viewing distances, every detail mattered. The technology needed to disappear, leaving only the art and the experience behind.

The Experience
Blue Square X delivered a custom Vision X 0.9mm COB Flip Chip LED wall spanning approximately 17.7 feet wide by 7.75 feet high, with a native resolution of 5,760 × 2,520. With more than 14.5 million pixels across one uninterrupted canvas, the ultra-fine pixel pitch preserves remarkable detail even when viewed from just a few feet away. Jennifer Steinkamp’s digital artwork gains the scale to transform the lobby while retaining the subtle color, movement, and detail essential to the work. Engineered specifically for the space, the custom display and mounting solution integrate seamlessly into the architecture. Rather than technology added to the lobby, it becomes part of the environment itself: an architectural-scale canvas where art, technology, and space come together.
